March 2024 Farmstead Update | Bringing Sheep Milk to Central Montana!

Hi friends,

March is off to an exciting start with the beginning of lambing season! We kicked off with a set of triplets! One of my favorite ewes, whom I lovingly call “Shorty” blessed us with two ewes and a ram lamb. All are doing well despite being born at a balmy temp of ten degrees Fahrenheit.

Here is a quick clip of the last baby being born. I couldn’t believe how fast they came and how tiny they were! The first lamb, the ram, was 5lbs. The next ewe weighed in at 5.5lbs and the final ewe weighed only 3.5lbs.

We ultimately decided to bum the runt. We brought her to the house to dry off and stay warm. She stayed inside for three days before being moved out to the barn. She was doing fantastic until we had a cold snap (-5 F). She got chilled and we almost lost her. Luckily, we were able to get her going again and she is back to her normal self.

Just this morning, a set of twins were delivered. Healthy ewe lambs weighing in at 8lbs and 9.5lbs!

Two ewes down, eleven to go! Keep an eye out for lambs for sale. I plan to have lambs for meat as well as ewe lambs for sale as future milkers.
