Experiencing a step back in time: The Bunkhouse at Fulbright Farmstead
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Tired of the rat race…or the noise that accompanies modern life? Why not escape to Central Montana where it feels like a step back in time. It is a little quieter, a little slower, and a whole lot more peaceful.
The Bunkhouse
As soon as you turn on the gravel road, roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. We are surrounded by 100’s of acres of rangeland pasture and some farmland. You can tell as soon as you pull up to the bunkhouse that this is a place to relax and unwind.
You pull right up to the bunkhouse and are greeted by the cheerful covered porch with a view of Square Butte to the Northwest. Everywhere you look, you are surrounded by mountain ranges. You will likely be greeted by the farm dog, Lily, or, equally as affectionate, one of our barn cats.
Check in
Check in couldn’t be simpler. Just open the door, and walk inside. No keys, no key codes, no cameras, none of that. Our family home is just 300’ away should you need anything or have any questions, we would be happy to help. While we love to interact with our guests, if you prefer your privacy that is fine too.
The space
When you walk inside, you will instantly get an inviting and cozy 1950’s era vibe thanks to the bunkhouse being outfitted with several vintage pieces. Despite being a small footprint, the bunkhouse feels so much bigger than it is due to all the light flooding in through the numerous windows and the tall vaulted ceiling in the living room.
You have a fully equipped kitchen complete with working vintage appliances. A few choice pieces from our resident blacksmith are available for you to purchase if you so choose.
The bedroom has an antique bed, but a brand new, comfortable mattress for your blissful nights sleep. A south facing window gives a wonderful view of the sunset in the evenings and a peek of the grazing animals during the day.
The bathroom is luxurious in its own right, featuring a refinished claw foot tub and shower. If you are truly nostalgic about how things used to be however, you will really enjoy our genuine outhouse. That’s right, you don’t do your business in the bunkhouse, but pull on your boots, walk down the boardwalk and into the outhouse. It is clean, well kept with no smells, a pleasant place to go. Who needs to scroll amazon prime when our outhouse comes with a Sears and Roebuck catalog for all your shopping needs.
Back to the living room, the couch has a pull out mattress for extra guests or children. The TV isn’t quite of the right era but fun for children nonetheless that have never seen an old box tv. Of course we include a selection of classic VHS movies. Leave us a note and tell us what we should add to the collection! Also included is a couple bags of popcorn for your family movie night enjoyment.
If you’d prefer to leave the screens off (we totally get it!) the coffee table opens up and is full of games and cards for more family fun.
What else we have to offer
If you’d rather get outside and enjoy the great outdoors with your family (we hope you will!) there is plenty to do out here. We’d love to show you around the farm or you are welcome to explore on your own.
We have lambs that love cuddles, sheep and cows that need milked, eggs to be gathered, a fully equipped blacksmithing shop where you can take forging lessons and more. If you are up for a challenge we even have a vintage tandem bicycle for our guests to ride around the property. Ackley Lake is just a few miles away to fulfill all your lake activities and the mountains are just a short drive away.
What is so different about the bunkhouse versus other places to stay? We like to think of the bunkhouse not just as a place to get away from it all, but a place to learn new to you, yet old skills so that you can create a life you don’t need to escape from.
